  • I recently purchased a used Giant Cypress 3 that had been fitted with 29” tubeless wheels but was missing the front wheel, so I ordeeed a wheel from you. I am new to tubeless setups and see that the wheel didn’t come with a valve stem. What else do I need to get this wheel ready?

    You will need:

    Tubeless valves: https://www.thebikesmiths.com/products/teravail-alloy-tubeless-valves-w-integrated-valve-core-tool?variant=53228366954656

You want to make sure you choose a valve length long enough to pass through the rim, and leave still leave enough exposed for you to easily inflate your tire (the 48mm option should be safe in this case, or 50mm if you choose to go with the Viair valves referenced: https://www.thebikesmiths.com/products/tlc-tubeless-valves-w-core-remover?variant=52460977062048)

    Tubeless rim tape: https://www.thebikesmiths.com/products/teravail-tubeless-rim-tape-4-4m?variant=52701778608288

Typically you want your tape to be ~3-5mm wider than your inner rim width. The 30mm option linked above should do the trick. This option is enough tape for one layer on two wheels, or two layers on one wheel. Many people like to apply two layers to ensure the system is airtight.

    Tire sealant: https://www.thebikesmiths.com/products/orange-seal-tire-sealant-refill-sixteen

This 16oz bottle has enough sealant for the initial tire installation, then will refill your system about 3 times. We have smaller or larger volume bottles available if you would prefer.

You will also need a tubeless tire if you do not have one. If this is the case, let us know which size you are looking for, and what kind of surface you will be riding on. We are happy to recommend some options.
